Piston ring question for Craftsman 36 cc, 2.2 cyl model 358351

Hello everyone. I am replacing the piston ring on my Craftsman 16 inch bar, model 358 chainsaw. The new piston ring is fitting not as snug as I would think around the piston. Is it supposed to be this loose? Should I expect to hone the cylinder some or what? thanks Terry in Tennessee (Shilohdreamer)

WELCOME to LMF...
Where is it loose?
When you place the ring Inside the cylinder bore did you measure the gap? You do not want it completely closed...
You hone the cylinder to remove any glaze AND to help seat the rings... :smile:KennyV

Really when I put the ring around the piston, it just seems too large. I will also check the gap. I have replaced on mowers before but never a chainsaw. thank you.

I have replaced a lot of rings on poulan products and the ring has a enough slack to spin around the piston before installed in cylinder so it is fine the way it is. Just make sure you get the pin lined up with the gap before installation.
