120lbs of compression. Nothing in the fan. But there's a lot of clanking going on, when I pull the pull cord.

Does a rod knocking (when you're trying to pull start it) in an echo, have a clanking sound?

Yes as will little bits of broken piston bouncing around in the crankcase
