Paying people to mow

I was thinking about paying a family member to mow my lawn and I'm not really sure how much to pay. Since it's probably going to end up being my 18 year old brother, I want to give him a good deal. If the job is going to take less than an hour, how much do you think I should give him?

Well I think it depends on the quality of the job and the effort involved to make your yard look nice. I mow grass for a neighbor its about 2 acres and takes about 1 hour to mow and 2 hours to do all the trim work. I charge 30 dollars per mow.

Paying a family member is usually less than you would pay a 'lawn cutting service' business...prices vary a great deal in different parts of the country.. i would say somewhere between 15-25 bucks. cut ,trim, blow.i would also encourage him to seek out other customers and make even more money.

You can not pay him TOO much if you really want to give him a 'good deal'...

Offer him what you think to be fair,,, if he does an exceptional job, let him know & give him 15 to 25 percent extra... that way you will both be happy and he will have done something more for the bonus... :smile:KennyV

As someone already mentioned prices vary a great deal in different parts of the country but that set aside if you want to give your brother a good deal on lawn care or mowing your yard, hire a lawn care service not your brother, You'll both be better off. It will only cause problems between you and him.
