I already changed out the coil which did wonders but I am wondering, since the spindels don't have a zert to grease them and one of them is hard to turn with my hand will this cause enouph stress on the engine to cause it to overheat?

It could be over working the engine.
If you take the spindle apart you can replace the bearings for under $10 or just buy a whole spindle.
If it's hard to turn by hand it's not going to last long. It is cheaper to fix it now then later.

Thanks for your reply. Does anyone sell spindels with a grease point so I can avoid replacing them in the future?

You can get them on eBay
But really not going to help make them last longer as the bearings are sealed and don't let the grease in.
What I do is get bearings with steel seal that let's grease in.

Oregon makes the best spindles and comes with good bearings that should last a homeowner years.

I saw a video, a guy drilled a hole in one of these and then tapped it to put a zert in and then take the seal off the bearings. He said just grease it about every 10 hrs of operation and it will last the life of the mower. He said he has done this a lot and it works great. I think I'll do that so I don't have to mess with it anymore. Also I cleaned the deck off this morning and ran the blades a little and the pulley under the engine was hot is this normal?

It should get warm but not hot.
Was going to say you can drill and tap and install the zerks.

Only take the seal off one side of the bearing. The side that faces in. Will help keep dirt out.

You guys have the wide experience. With my dyt 4000 there are zerks which manual says lube once yearly. I have done it about 4 times yearly only mowing 1-1/2 acres for 10 years. No problem with spindles so far. This discussion about seals takes us back to at least one long thread in here somewhere . It was reported by someone that some setups with zerks contained bearings which were sealed one side only so the other could accept incoming grease. I have pumped a lot of grease in 10 years but have not seen a drop. Where is it going?
