i am changing the hydrostatic in my 1999 simplicity broadmoor mower with a similar drive out of another mower, the drive pulley on the motor of the parts mower was a lot smaller. when i got the mower put together, the forward drive speed is about 2x faster.

my question is will over speeding the hydrostatic input cause any problems? can i leave it like this, or will i have to change the pulley?

p.s. i like it being faster.

yes, it causes cavitation and rapid transmission failure

even on youtube - simple changing pulley and overspeeding hydrotrany - easiest thing some kids do - and " its works, but not for long, and you WILL brake the trany", rather sooner, than later

Yes, you'll break the tranny quite soon. Another big issue is the heat generated by turning that shaft so quickly..

The longest I have had one last after doing a pulley swap for more speed has been around 3 hours. Accept for the one I am running now. Running heavy gear oil in it

(( racing is the only sport that you need two balls ))

I know this is unrelated to the topic, but I'm wondering if a bigger engine would make the hydro faster.
I'm contemplating upgrading my 12.5HP to 17.5HP.

Grassbandit, unless the larger motor spins faster... the hydros wont go faster. In the previous replies it was stated tha t spinning the hydros faster would be bad for the hydro. It would seem the way to speed is to use something that is not a hydro like and old fashioned tranny ...
