That model 320 John Deere doesn't have a very complicated electrical system. It dose have a diode in its system you might want to check. Other then that just check all connections and safety switches. A wiring diagram would be helpful also.

What/where are other safety switches besides under the seat? Also the diode? I don't have a wiring diagram. It was bought used without any manuals. Thanks for your help.

if you know the battery is good, check it's primary ground cable for cleanliness and tightness on both ends. Have you checked the hot wire from the battery to the solenoid to see it it's hot? Definitely check the ground though.

Yes.Hot at the solenoid and the ground looks good

Without the mower here in my shop I really don't have much to go by. One of the diodes go to the ignition relay. Your mower also has a ignition module but I can't see why that would make everything dead, it just wouldn't start if that was bad. You really should have a wiring diagram because that will be your road map to finding your problem.

I was just sitting by the mower and left the key in the run position. I heard a very faint click and found it does this every minute or so. i cant pinpoint where it's coming from. but from what i can hear it seems to be under the battery. possibly from the bank of 4 electrical connections

Just guessing but I will say you are hearing a relay click. Your mower has several relays.
