Older Briggs & Stratton Mower - discontinued rewind coil assembly

Hi all! I bought an older ExMark mower with a 14hp Vanguard (B&S) motor knowing it was missing its rewind coil starter assembly. After hours of research and looking around, it looks like the parts I need are discontinued and I can't find any on ebay. Based on the parts manual, I believe I only need the rewind assembly, but possibly an adapter, too.

Parts manual: https://manualzz.com/doc/60069402/simplicity-261777-0146-99-manual

Pic1 - overall mower/engine
Pic2 - birds eye of flywheel/screen/cup
Pic3 - Model info
Pic4 - Two parts that the seller gave to me, including a blower housing ring and a rewind assembly (not even sure if this is the right one or some random one)

The rewind assembly I think I need is the B&S 494573
I'm not sure, but I might need another adapter between the blower housing ring and rewind adapter.

Anyone familiar with this motor that can offer some advice? It doesn't have to be pretty, it just needs to start :) Thanks a bunch in advance!

Before rewind starters they used a plain pulley and a rope
Engineering shops will sell pain pulleys all you need to do is cut a notch in the side & buy some No 5 or 6 starter cord

Great idea! If I can't find the proper parts for it, this will definitely be a good option. Thanks for the suggestion!

Using your code number I come up with part number 494926. Searches using that number come up with many assemblies available.

Thanks for looking! Actually, that number is for models prior to code 91120900.

Prior 91120900 (mine) - Part# 495373
Post 91120900 - Part# 494926

Do you think the newer Part# 494926 would work just as well? If so, I'm pretty sure I came across that one on of the less popular parts sites..

If you can find either starter assembly, they should work for you.

Awesome - I'll look for the newer model. Might be easier. So far, I've found one in stock at some no-name place and they are confirming stock tomorrow, but I have my doubts. You mentioned you found many available, but that hasn't been the case for me. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

Thanks!

Might want to check your local shops, as they might have an old scrap engine you can rob one off.
