Oil in the muffler

I have a 5hp Briggs and I fired it up the other day and I had the choke on full and it started but would only run on full throttle and I had smoke coming out of the muffler and it died and the muffler was covered in oil. Could it just be that it hasn't ran in a while?

How did it run the Last time it was running???
There are several things to check... but start with the oil level in the engine... :smile:KennyV

Last time it ran it ran good but there was a Little oil by the muffler but I didn't realize it until when I fired it up yesterday if I remember I will record a video of it running and put it on youtube.

Oil in the muffler is generally from a torn head gasket . Other reason is fuel has leaked past the carb into the cylinder and dropped into the oil .
Add a fuel shut off valve & run the carb dry each time your done with the machine.
Only running on half choke indicates the carb needs a cleaning and or rebuild . The kit is about $ 8.00
And sometime owners OVER FILL the crank case ... The oil has to go somewhere .

I did not have time to check the oil today but the model number is 130902. I do not have fuel lines on it because my carb is on top of the tank. It is a diafram carb and I replaced the diafram because it was old but I think I will clean the carb out. I talked to one guy and he told me it was a bad valve.
