Engine off of mower.
Blade and hub off of shaft.
6 or 7 bolts out ( I forgot to count them)
Got the case separated about 1/4" but the bottom case won't come off the crankshaft (to separate cases), is there anything inside holding it?
or maybe rust on the shaft? I'll use a power wire brush tomorrow to clean it up and try again.
Thanks.
I wire brushed it and disconnected the oil fill tube.
The oil fill tube has a rubber o-ring that should have popped out easily.
I suppose the combination of the two issues was enough resistance to stop the job.
Anyhow, I got it apart.
The problem I was chasing was oil pouring out onto the deck when engine ran for more than 30 seconds.
Look what I found.
Someone did a sloppy gasket install.
I think I'll use form-a-gasket, can't seem to find the gasket alone.
The gasket is what sets the end float so it's thickness is critical to the proper running of the engine.
If you can not get one or don't want to buy a full set then cut a new one.
Avybody notice the missing tooth on the camshaft gear. Looks like you will need a camshaft to go with that gasket. And some companies don't sell the individual gaskets just a complete gasket set. Most of the time though the gasket set is cheap enough that the whole set is about the cost of what you would pay for that one gasket.
After I blew the picture up it looks like something is just laying there. there shouldn't be anything attached to the engine in that area. Could it be the center button from the governor gear or something else.
