On my new self-propelled mower, there's an oil leak of some sort by one of the bolts on the OHV cover plate. Is it leaking because of loose bolts or because I added too much oil to the engine?

As a new mower this should not happen...the OHV cover also has a gasket to seal....you can tighten bolts and check if leak stops....if not, the gasket is damaged...its a quick cheap fix but again on a new mower its not acceptable!....always double check oil level....give her what she needs...no more no less.

Just remember that if you leave wrench marks etc on OHV cover bolts and you still are having issues you might have problems replacing mower...they will say you messed with it which might effect your warranty.

Well don't know how we can tell from here. You do have a wrench to see if valve cover studs are loose? And a dip stick or other oil level checking device?
