After spending megabucks for a machine we must dish out again for a manual.
Why not at least supply a parts book on cd free.

A lot of info about your machines is probably available for free online. I've found some Lawn-Boy manuals (service) for free download. Parts diagrams are often on websites that sell parts -- you just have to right-click and save the image.

Even if you have to pay, it's worth it to buy a good manual. I think you're on the right track -- you're aware of the need to know how to do things right.

I agree with you 100%. They want you to go back to the dealer to spend more of your money.

The vast majority of companies will have parts lists online.... I would be surprised if you cant find any information for whatever brand you have online

The reason books and CD's arent as accepted anymore is because they can become out of date very quickly.
At least online, information such as new part numbers etc are always updated.

Having been a tech instructor for over 30 years the main reason that manuals cost so much is liability. If you produce a manuel for a piece of equipment and Joe Blow hurts himself while following your Manuel, the company can be held accountable even if Joe skipped a valuable step. CYA is the name of the game. Do you realize, that in this forum someone can come back after you if you post dangerous info, or incomplete instructions. While I was an instructor I had to have extra liability insurance just because of this. I say careful what you wish for.

Rivets.....congratulations and very well said. Thats why manuals only show parts, not how to repair.
Liability is a big issue for all manufacturers these days

I know people who live like this. Everything that they do they worry about being sued. Yes it can happen but me I am not going to worry and live that way. Life is too short.

I don't live that way either, just wanted to explain the $$$$ of manuals. I live by the PASS IT ON RULE. If someone does a good deed for you, you are to pass it on double. Works for me and I can enjoy life.

Not sure from the thread if we ever got info on which manual the OP is looking for. I have put together a list of manufacturer links to parts manuals or online parts lookups. A lot of the links also lead to online manuals that can be downloaded for free.

I got the complete service manual for my JD for $9.95 & it has anything you would ever need to know about the mower. I don't consider $9.95 overly expensive for a manual that can save you untold amounts of money.
