I've got a 2009 Husqvarna EZ5224 with the Kohler 25hp

Model/Spec: SV725-0013

Mower sat for about 3 weeks (rain, after rain, after rain...).

Attempted to start and the mower whines. I threw on a jump pack, battery was reading 12.8, but I used the battery pack to attempt to start the mower anyhow. No dice.

Initially, the starter gear would turn the flywheel, but not a complete revolution. Thinking the starter was bad, I replaced it and unfortunately it's still doing the same whine/no start.

All electrical connections are in good shape.

Thanks for any help

Do you have a helper? To sit in seat and hold brake or whatever safety rules you have to meet...

Have someone put a screw driver across large nuts on the solenoid and report how the engine turns over.

You said connections are all good...they can fool you.

Ebrake is on, seat is not depressed...I don't think it would even make an attempt to start if the safety switch was an issue, am I right here?

So, I did try to place a screwdriver across the solenoid and it smoked pretty quickly/scorched the tool. Also, the engine attempted to start, but failed to turn over.

I hear you on the connections.

You are right...if safety problem it will be silent.

When you put the screw driver across you have to do it with fortitude...making a solid connection...or it will arc...as it did

when you do this and engine spins well...it shows your problem is before this...maybe a faulty solenoid or connection.

Got it, I'll give it a shot.

Thanks

And it will not start unless key is in "run" position...

So, I just gave it a shot: Nada!

I held the screwdriver across the solenoid terminals (it still arc'd, it's just a ****** orientation/location).

The engine tried turning over with more intensity, and it did not whine, but did not turnover.

*SIDE NOTE* I did have an issue a while back with the seat safety switch, likely a loose connection, because it was very intermittent. But again, I don't think that's the issue here?

OK..
This is getting more complicated.
You could pull your spark plugs so you have no compression and see if engine turns over easily.

I would say check your battery...but you did. The connects and wire side connects of the battery.

You have a problem in the engine(unlikely)
Bad starter...you changed it...I think.
Bad battery that is not putting out enough cranking amps...take to auto store and get load tested
Even your ground side could be corroded due to the rain...
remove clean and reconnect all connections with a known, good battery

I attempted all of this with a car starter on the battery, so would that eliminate a bad battery? Even if it were the issue?

Starter, changed.

I'll pull apart the connections and hit it with a scratch cloth.

Thank you.

What we are doing when we start the mower is create a circuit.
12V positive leaves the battery to solenoid
Key switch sends 12V to solenoid to operate coil and make circuit inside solenoid.
12V leaves solenoid to starter (starter is grounded to engine, engine to frame, frame to negative post on battery.
starter motor engages to engine flywheel to crank motor.

Any point in this circuit could be breaking down.

Pull on the wires coming off the battery and make sure they are making good contact in the terminal connector
do the same at the solenoid...see if strands of wire are broken...any little thing that could be missed.
