Got a GT 1100 wheel horse. Not even gonna try to start it because it hasn't ran in 20 years. Gotta rebuild engine and wiring. No spark. Had to take off old coil because mice made a nest right there. Not sure if new coil works or not. I don't know if turning the flywheel wrong way ruins it. Took it off and cleaned it. Any ideas?

Please post model and serial numbers for both the unit and engine. That way we will know exactly what you are talking about.

If you do not see a spark, there is an ignition problem. Remove a plug wire and insert an old spark plug or a spark plug tester into the end of the wire (the plug boot). Place the spark plug on a metal surface on the engine, or ground the spark plug tester to the engine. Then crank the engine to check for a spark.

From reading it seems that toro used a Briggs 252417 model engine, which used points and condenser according to the IPL.
Briggs offered a Magnetron upgrade kit (to no longer need the points and condenser) but it says no longer available. IPL also showed the Just the new magnetron coil as 398811.

Of the 298968 is NLA hence the 398811 Magnetron only option.
