friends mower has no spark( 26 hp kolher) when we took the cover off I unplugged the wires off the 2 coils and it now has spark- what does this mean and what do I need to do- there is no obvious cuts in wire- it all looks normal- I pulled flywheel and stator look normal( no burn look)- im thinking diode but don't know much about that- thanks Lee

It would make helping you so much easier if you would just post the engine make and model number as there are differences from one to another.

Two sources for the problem.
1) the wire that connects the coils together has a diode in there which is prone to going bad.
2) the mower has a safety curcuit that grounds out that wire to kill the engine.
So if the mower controls are all set ready to start and the wire to the coils has continuity to ground, one of the safetys is bad or the wiring is grounding somewhere.

But again can't really help any more without knowing what we are talking about.
