I currently have a john deere ja 65 and it is about to bite the dust. Ive been looking at hondas, toros, and the awd husqvarna. I am on a budget <$600. I mainly use the john deere to cut up hills and around trees. Any suggestions and experience with any of these mowers would help a lot

I have a Honda HRX217HYA and absolutely love it!! It has many awesome features like a blade-brake clutch, powerful GCV190 engine, a NeXite deck, Clip Director, and so much more! The Honda HRX is more "bang for your buck" than the Husqvarna in my opinion because the only feature that the Husqvarna has that the Honda does not is the AWD. If you have a lot of hills (which it sounds like you do) the Husqvarna would be useful, but my Honda does great on hills also.

The HYA is more than you want to spent (but it's worth it), but you can get the HRX217VKA (Smart Drive controls) for around your max budget.

I would also go for the Honda rather than the Toro. Husqvarna is made by AYK (I think that's the company) which makes Craftsman and Poulan. So you'd basically be buying an orange Poulan.
