Hi, I got the Model Series 020 MTD push mower recently, with a 140 ccOHV vertical shaft engine (powermore). Got it put together, gas in the gas tank, oil in the oil tank, and... nada. I thought I flooded it, so I waited. Tried later without prime. Nothing. Primed again, started and died after a couple seconds. Is it possible that a new engine would have something blocking fuel line or bad carb?. I was thinking spark plug, but it looks decent. Is it safe to try a different type of sparkplug made by the same engine manufacture? For example, the existing spark plug is a Torch F5RTC, and the only other powermore sparkplug I could find in-store was a F6RTC. Or am I looking in the wrong place? Spark smells like gas, so I'm assuming it's ok.
Any ideas?
There's several plugs that interchange with that one. I'd go to the store and get a Champion RN11YC4. Some have different heat ranges but what you need to confirm is the length from the top thread to the bottom of the electrode is the same as factory. All kinds of brands available. Just go to a automotive parts store and if needed, they'll cross reference it for you. It's likely almost any place, Lowe's etc, will have the Champion. First have you confirmed you have spark? Did you prime it 3-5 times?
I am also in the take it back camp.
If you are really careful not to lead any marks pull the float bowl and check for water and that is is far as I would go.
Bad fuel / water in carb is not a warrantee claim so you would be justified to check that warrante wise.
My advise factors in did he get it from a place that farms the work out, time of no mowing, dumb a** shop, etc. The stuff I suggested is very vanilla and has no impact on warranty.
