After many hours/days of research (lawnmowerforum.com was one of my main sources), I just purchased my first Honda mower. If money had not been an issue, I would have splurged on a sweet HRX217HYA, but I think the HRR216VKA will work just fine for my slightly less than 1/2 acre property. I got a pretty good deal, too. We went to a Home Depot in Delaware, so that got rid of the sales tax. Sadly, they wouldn't take my 20% Harbor Freight coupon, but the manager said they would take a Lowes coupon from my phone. I tried to find one online, but after 10 minutes of unsuccessfully searching, their manager just went ahead and gave me a 10% discount. She actually applied it to the entire purchase, which included about $175 of goods in addition to the mower, so that was quite awesome of her. Needless to say, shining Yelp and Google reviews are in store for that location, along with a call to their district manager.
Previously, we have owned Toros and a Snapper. The Snapper was pretty good, but I was about 10-11 when we bought it, so no appreciation or care went toward that mower. The Toros were LOW end budget models and only last about 4 seasons (damn carbs), but I really didn't take care of them either. This will be the first mower I plan to treat right and service myself, so although it's far from top of the line, I am excited to own and take pride in my first Honda.
Anyway... I just wanted to thank this forum for the great info it provided me over the past week of research. I'm sure you will see me again as I learn how to properly take care of my Honda mower throughout the season.
You made a good decision with your choice of mower! I have the HRX217HYA...maybe that can be your next mower after a decade or two with the mower you just bought! Take a look at the following link to videos on how to properly maintain your Honda: http://www.lawnmowerforum.com/honda-forum/13420-new-honda-mower-videos.html
