Administration seems to be anxious to have me post on the forum, say hi and name my tractor brand !

So I'm here posting this intro.

I live in New England on a 1-1/4 acre lot. I have a Cub Cadet LT1042 that once I purchase a good chipper I hope to upgrade this tractor in the next year or two. Right now we need the chipper more than the new tractor. The tractor has been fine except to eat a belt now and then and I'm headed towards the second set of replacement blades maybe after this season. The lot is fairly rough terrain, I probably should have a GT, as the Cadet lives a fairly tough life here and I get concerned that the hydro transmission may not hold out under these conditions..

So that's it in a nutshell !

It's my baby because it saves me a ton of work ! I just had the valve cover off, it sprung a little oil leak there. Inside the engine looks like brand new, I gave it a quick valve adjustment while there, wasn't off much.. I was using full synthetic oil. I'm using partial synthetic 10w30 in it now. I think I will stick with that from here on out.

I just hear bad stories about hydro transmissions on semi hilly rough lots unless of the Garden Tractor ruggedness. So far so good. The tractor was bought new in 06 and pretty much has done duty in two yards. My own and my daughters ( who now sold her house so that is done). I'm not complaining about the tractor, I just feel like I'm hedge hogging with it sometimes ! I probably should have bought a bit heavier duty tractor.

Yes sir, changing oil often is cheap insurance, I buy the best for mine and change it way too often but it never lets me down :thumbsup:

Today I added 2 gal of windshield washer fluid to each rear tire or about 14 lbs in each. What a difference in traction, especially in reverse ! Also on the trailer, the back end of the tractor never slid on the trip home.

I mentioned that I had rough terrain here, well sometimes my front wheel might get over a banking or some such thing, then I'd start rocking the tractor to get out. Not today. I was aiming for 3 gal in each wheel but I lost probably close to a gal in each side by the way I filled them. Some day I may add the other gal or not. It doesn't seem to need it and the tractor is still under the max weight listed for that tranny..

I couldn't be much more pleased with the Cadet than I am right now !

Let the air out and broke the bead at the top of the tire, shoved a flex funnel in there and poured it in. if i had taken the tires off the tractor and laid them down getting four gallons in would have been doable I believe and still leave room for some air. Live and learn, bu this is working anyway.

Don't have to worry about it freezing.

You can buy a adapter that goes on the valve stem and hook it to a garden hose or a funnel.

Oh sorry, I took it that you meant you had to use just water there. Didn't know why. Now I see that you only need to use water because it stays above freezing. Here, this past winter, we got down to +2 deg F.

Yes I know about the adapter, I know that some guys drill and install a second valve stem and use that as a bleeder, so air can get out as they fill. I was trying to cheat that system ! Well none the less the tractor has more traction now than it had before, so I'm happy, for the time being at least.
