Just out on the Greenworks website, the basic tool is a 14" string trimmer with .080 dual line bump-feed head with a power head that can be attached to other compatible tools such as a disc brush cutter, stick edger, pole saw and blower. It claims compatibility with gas attachments from other brands such as Ryobi and Yardworks.

I'm starting to think that Greenworks is just making an electric motor split-pole power head that fits Ryobi and other brand attachments that normally fit on gas engine power heads. For example, compare the Greenworks string trimmer attachment and the Ryobi Expand-it attachment. They look strikingly similar, don't they ? Greenworks is also selling a corded electric version.

It looks like Ryobi is introducing a very similar system:

It also looks like Ryobi's pricing is lower than Greenworks, however, it does not appear to use a brushless motor, whereas Greenworks does.

Changzhou Globe Tools Co., Ltd. on mainland China (sometimes just Globe Tools) makes the Greenworks stuff for Sunrise Marketing in NC.

Techtronics in Hong Kong makes Ryobi, Ridgid and other stuff.

Of course, they could have paid for the 'rights' w'ever to Ryobi's connection style parts, or it could be a 'lucky coincidence' (wink, wink)

Well, Greenworks readily admits they are using other brands' attachments, so they are probably only making the power heads and placing Greenworks labels on the trimmer attachment. They are also selling a corded power head. Still, their brushless motor power head may be superior to Ryobi's.
