Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with haggling a price reduction when buying new from a dealer. I always feel a bit rude trying this, even at a garage sale! But if there is a way to approach this issue I'd welcome some tips.

This is the end of season for many dealers... they are all doing a lot of price negotiating to make a sale...

If you already know what you are looking for, then start price shopping... you should find some big price differences. :smile:KennyV

Yeah, I am just horrible at haggling. Sometimes I can do it, but it just isn't my forte at all. I did manage to get a little freebie tossed in when I purchased all of my new computer stuff recently. I was a nervous wreck even asking.

It's easy in later years. Just ask if they have a senior discount.

Sandbur you are funny . I find that doing some price checking before you try to negotiate puts you in a better position. Where I live many shops already have policies in place which promise you a reduction and a bonus if you find the item cheaper elsewhere.

I always haggle because I just love doing it. I find with yard sales people expect it and even some dealers now expect to do it so they put a higher price on it to start with. The best thing is to say that you've seen it cheaper elsewhere and ask them to match the price.

I'd haggle for something for a quarter to see if they would sell it for a dime. It was something I picked up from my grandparents, my grand dad was a travelling salesman, back in the day.

Believe it or not, my wife is a lot better at that than I am. If I think it's a fair price, I'll pay it. If I don't, I'll walk.
