I have a John Deere z225 mower, (purchased in 2008) with a Briggs and Stratton 18.5 motor. I think I have a blown head gasket. Any ideas or suggestions on a replacement motor?

If it is only a head gasket problem... Why not just replace the gasket... ? :smile:KennyV

Yea not hard to do. If its a twin cylinder, just do both sides. Cost you like $15 in parts or so.

Just make sure you are comfortable working with overhead valves. If not find a good mechanic. Have seen amatuer screw ups that end up costing big $$$$.

If you are already looking to a new engine then there is no worry for a screwup at this point. You have much that may be gained and little to lose by trying a fix yourself before a new engine.

Heck, a manual and a couple of new gaskets sounds like a bargain to me.:wink:Failing that, a trip to a repair center will still be cheaper than a new engine installed.
