I have been making the slicing blades for my Granberg out of old mower blades for a long time.
When All Power had the brand they wanted $ 120 for a 4" length of tool steel
The cost of the tool steel was $ 8 retail
The cost of the carbide drill set to drill the 3 holes then countersink them was $ 80 .
after doing a couple I noticed that the Kubota Blades were the same thickness so tried cutting some from an old worn out one.
Worked a treat so now I make them in batches , 2 to 4 from a blade,
As for the flails, same story went through the dead blade bin to find some close to the same thickness then sliced up the blades .
The caveat on doing this is the new set must be all the same weight or the shaft will become out of balance
Good thing is usually it is only the middle ones that wear so I just replace them in sets of the same number per shaft
