Need help fuel issue

I am looking at my neighbors Little Giant Blower that won’t start. It has 5hp Briggs engine model 135212, Type1216 E1,
Code 990901YB. With a pulsa jet carb that has a fixed jet. The only way I can get it to stay running is to spray gas into the carb. I ended up removing the carb and tank. Cleaned the tank as best I could cleaned the carburetor with compressed air replaced the diaphragm for the fuel pump even though it seemed fine. I also cleaned what I assume is the fuel pickup. Longtube There is also another tube coming off the bottom but it is not like any of the picture I have seen with one long tube and one short tube. The other tube the short one is about the the diameter of a dime and appears to be wrapped with something and it sits in what looks like bowl inside the fuel tank. Any ideas as to what might be the issue would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect that you are looking at the screen over the short fuel pickup 1730141677206.png
Pull off the screen and there is a jet under there that is most likely clogged.

That would the fuel tower that contains the main jet and nozzle. The small cup like item is the fuel bowl that the fuel fills up so the main jet is submerged. What appears to warp around tower is removable screen that is there to filter out trash. As IL just posted the main could clogged but I have the internal passages of the tower also clogged.

BUt it sounds like the tank is pretty rusty and if so it is a lost cause as the tanks are no longer available and have been for quite some time. A shame in one sense as a lot of good equipment just get junked for the lack of a good fuel tank. I think part of the problem was that Briggs overpriced the tanks and people simply quit buying them.

You guys are awesome thanks for your help. It is to bad that you can’t buy a new tank. A replacement blower is over 600.00. Thanks again!

Tank should be cleanable. Muratic acid or what ever you like to remove interior rust. Rust converter, motorcycle tank cream, nuts and bolts...... Vinegar will take a while. Acidic acid is nice and gentle.

Make sure the fuel pick up tube is not cracked. Taryl has a video of how to make one out of brake line.

That mesh screen ILENGINE posted, most don't have those. Good if yours does. Covers the bottom of the fuel pickup tube.

Make sure the fuel pump is pumping. That smaller inner fuel holding pot is where the main jet sucks from. Then the excess is allowed to spill over back into the tank. Make sure this inner holding area is full of gas when you remove the carb from tank.

You will need to remove if yours has one a Welsh plug for the pilot circuit cleaning. Older carbs have a pilot screw. Newer ones are plugged off. There are a couple holes for the pilot circuit that need rodded out. Use fishing line or a small bread tie with the plastic removed. Don't use torch tip cleaners. They are highly abrasive. Will enlarge the jets making it run rich. Jets are soft brass. No need for diamond files LOL.

Rubber diaphragms probably need changed.

Slomo, The problem with the tanks is the anti splash guards (plastic and/or foam) in the tank are not resistant to Muriatic Acid. So OP please don't try using it.

Also those fuel reservoir cups do tend to rust through.

Sure, solvents/acids can eat the foam.
