You probably have the same picture I have. I had the pin that goes through the spring oriented all wrong. Got it straight, got all back together and there is still a slight vibration, but at least it is the same now whether the blade clutch is engaged or not. No more rattling so bad the muffler shroud would shake loose! I now just wait for the blade brake bearing to arrive. Every thing is right. The blade brake itself (with the friction pads on it) was bent a little bit and hitting the hub that spins and holds the belt when it was all the way out. Adjusted the cable correctly for the brake dead zone and it gives more clearance to the spinning hub. If the new bearing does it, I'm done. If it still vibrates, I'm done. Enough is enough. I just love the Honda 5 hp mower as it "sips" gas like its automotive counterparts, the blade brake is great. It is an excellent mulcher with the dual blades and the hydrostatic transmission is really about as close to a personal pace as you can get. Bag is easier on and easier off that of the Toro and the Xenoy deck will last forever! I'm sure there are better out there, but at the time I got it in about '96, it was a far cry better than any mower I had up to that point. Reminder to self: Don't tilt on its side to spray hose to clean clipping from bottom of deck and then flip it back upright and start righjt away before oil has made it back to the sump. I seized the motor on my first one and HAD to get a used same model. This one has lasted until brother-in-law hit the buffalo box from the gas Co.!
Many thanks for all the great advice. I will o0nly post a follow-up after new brake bearing is in. I'm thrilled and wish I had working on it before getting dad a 1 year old Toro. I would have given him my Toro and kept the Honda! 7.0hp gas guzzling Briggs & Stratton... Not exactly a GXV140.
