need carb for Deere LX172 with Kawasaki FC420v engine

I am in the process of rebuilding an old LX172 and unfortunately am going to need a new or different carburetor. A used OEM carb with the same model number is rare and a new one is $250, which I am not willing to spend on this project. The search for alternatives is complicated by the fact that the FC420v engine on this mower has multiple versions/models ( mine is the FC420v-AS10) and the parts differ per version. I've looked at all the sites and checked all the suppliers, parts lists, specs and manuals.
So, I'm hoping someone out there has some hands on experience with this engine and knowledge of some carb options, if any exist. The carb that came with this engine has a fuel solenoid but I could run without one if the carb fit.
Thanks

I'm having the same issue. Did you ever get your carb situation figured out?
Thanks

I ended up getting an OEM carb off ebay for a reasonable price though I think it actually came off a different model tractor.

One of mine also has the FC420V-AS10.

I'd be very interested to learn which "wrong" carb also works on these engines, for the same reasons as you.

Any carb from an engine of the same cc.
Measure the space between the mounting bolts .
If they are almost the same then a little file work will fix it.
All carbs are the same.
Nothing special about them to make them mower specific.
The only problem is making the wires hook up to the carb.
So if your carb has the control wires on the top, get one that has the control wire on the top , not on the side.

The other thing to be aware of is the total length which might require longer bolts or studs.

Then there is the air filter to consider.
Go to a mower salvage yard and have a poke around.
