CARB MODEL# 792253
This engine has no primer bulb and has sit for several months after being run out of gas, now the engine will start when choked, run for 2-3 seconds and die. You can pull it 10 times and won't re-start regardless if it's choked unchoked open throttle or closed. Wait 10 or 15 and the same scenario,
I have removed an cleaned the carb 3 times the jet is clear, I think there is only one although the casting has 2 ports at the top of the pick-up.
Do I need a new carb or there something else i can do to aviod the 45-50 bucks one will cost.

It would rum briefly with starter fluid but little difference.

I was able to determine the problem, It runs great now. If any body's interested I'll post the problem and how I fixed it.

Always good to hear how a problem was fixed.

For anybody with a no-start problem with a small engine:
Squirt some gas in the carb throat and try to start
Check the spark by grounding the spark plug against the engine and pulling the engine over
Pull the spark plug and put your finger in the plug hole while pulling the engine over. Is the compression normal? (It doesn't hurt to have checked this out before a problem happens to know what normal compression feels like)
Does the engine "bite" on the start cycle

That's it: fuel, spark, ignition timing, compression.

The carb on this engine is real common it's just configured a liitle different because it has no primer. also the off switch is located on the throttle. Don't tell Muhammed but this was not a lawn mower

Anyway, yesterday it would not start so If figured if I took it apart, got the carb off and removed the bowl I could spray some carb cleaner through the jets and it run like a champ, depending on how bad things looked. Well it didn't look bad at all, there were som forgien objects in the botttom and some weird colored gas but nowhere near as bad as some I have saved from the scrap pile.
I sprayed carb cleaner(b12 chemtool the best I've found) through the carb and the jet flowed clear, blew it out with compressed air and figured I was done. I put it all back together(remember you can't start this thing unless you have the hose hooked up with the water on because if it starts it will fry the pump) tried to start it, and it ran...for about 3 seconds.
I did this three more times and I relpaced the tank as it had a leak at the joint near the top and I thought that maybe the fact that it wouldn't hold pressure was why it didn't run for more than a few seconds as a primer system might react.
It wasn't until I came in and sat down today to price new carbs and post a thread here, that I began to think about it, When I typed "pick up tube" I asked my self if I had cleaned the brass bolt that holds the bowl on the carb, I know I cleaned it off but I failed to throughly clean out the bore through this, and that is where the obstruction was. I dissembled it again ran a thin wire through the three holes (2 bores) and reassembled. It start right up. That little mistake cost me 4 hours off work and a good part of my weekend.
I won't do that again

most people that try to clean these carbs themselves miss the nut jet.

As common as the dirty carb problem is, would it be unreasonable to ask the carburetor manufacturer to print out an exploded view of all these ports/orifices/passages etc. that may need cleaning periodically.

It's not like these little openings are jumping out yelling CLEAN ME-CLEAN ME, I"M PLUGGED with DEBRIS CRAP. In fact when an opening is plugged it sometimes doesn't look like an opening at all to my elderly eyes.
