coworker's g'father has a 917.273022 that needs a fuel cut solenoid at minimum. perhaps a new carburetor. (he has good fule flow to the carb and it runs on starter fluid - wire to solenoid is broken - may not be able to solder it back to the pigtail stub)
Yes they are expensive little buggers.
Check carefully before you replace it the wiring is generally part of the mower and the solenoid has a plug on the end.
There are some aftermarket ones available but they are not much cheaper.

First things first, fix the wire to solenoid. You can also test the solenoid by putting 12v + to it to see if it opens. tewarehouse.com/7-01867
$35.00 out of stock right now but use the live chat to see when it will be in at bottom of page.
it did ohm at about 40ohms so, not open or shorted - he managed to get a decent looking solder joint so, maybe that will get it going for a season at least.
I also found an entire carb on ebay for $90 ! so, he has that option if there's still an issue.
$35 seems high for such a small part - but not crazy $$$$$ like some other folks want.
