I have heard about those. I would like to get my hands on one. What years were they made ? I have always loved 2 strokes. Owned many Motorcycles, and some of my faves were 2-strokes.well in the defense of the duraforce 2 stroke, they were jetted too small (emission standards) making them bog like crazy in thick grass because they run too lean. The F series lawnboys have an air adjustment on them and they will dust a 4 stroke when adjusted properly. Nothing but a two stroke lawn boy will be touching my lawn. If you ever get a chance to jump on an f series lawn boy do it because you will not want to mow with anything else after using it!

A Lawn Boy isn't the mower for someone that wants to do nothing more than pull a rope, and cut grass.
However, if you enjoy working on small engines as a hobby, like getting all kinds of looks as you mow your lawn (and a great cut they produce), and appreciate the craftsmanship and quality of days gone by, you can't find a better product. For the guys here still using the old Lawnboys, how many other guys on your street, or neighborhood still are?
Crazy thing! I was just watching the film "Adventureland" ,and James was using an F-series when Freego came up and punched him in the nuts !!
Whoa! That thing is bad to the bone ! Wicked. Never knew Toros had any nuts at all! I like Kawasaki Engines, but have only used them on Scagg Commercial mower.I know Other small walk behind mowers use them too ,but they are very expensive. There have been several threads about two-stroke vs four-stroke and you can guess where I come down on that issue.
Somebody mentioned cutting 1' tall grass. The ultimate mower for that kind of job is a Suzuki-powered Toro (two-stroke). I think it's actually overpowered for mowing "lawns". I use it as a cross between a field mower and a regular lawn mower.
I love that movie. I wonder who decided to put that Mower in the film. James had mentioned that he was a "Lawn boy ",taking care of a neighbor's lawn for like 2 years ,so he would have needed a solid mower ! There is a cool looking LB on Ebay now that is completely restored ,5HP ,2-stroke. don't know how good they were Lawn Boy M21ZPRC M Series 2 Cycle Push Mower Restored Magnesium Deck 5 0 HP | eBay and look at this !! Lawn Boy Cast Aluminum Walk Behind Push Mower Mulcher 1013707 | eBay & Lawnboy 2 Cycle Mower Model 5247 19 inch Aluminum Deck F100 Engine | eBay & Vintage 1983 Lawn Boy 8240AE Electric Start Self Propel 2 Stroke Alum Deck | eBayI went and watched the clip from the movie and it is an f series lawn boy! In fact it looks like the same model as scotts he posted today!

Yes ,I saw that it was a Suzuki engine .I have never seen one of those(Suzuki engine) on a mower. I owned several Yamaha RD400 2 stroke twin Street bikes when I was younger. They were too much fun. I think it would be neat to yank the muffler off ,& put an expansion chamber on a 2 stroke mower to hear it wing!! ,like the ones those kids put on their Go-peds. I guess it would be annoying after a while ,but crazy anyway.I wonder if anyone out there has done that. It's a Suzuki engine. I might add that I used it a lot over the weekend. There's lots of semi-field areas at my place in Cleburne Co. And almost all of it is on steep grades that preclude using a four-stroke.
I agree with you 100% I know even my Dura force mowers were Green Toros,as is my new mower. I have used the old Commercial Lawn Boy mowers back in the 80's with the Huge Fuel tank ,and the gaurd around the engine ,they were light ,even with that huge tank ,and unstoppable. And they were made 100% in the USA till toro (messed them up) bought them! Just saying
OMG !! Outstanding! Very impressive. Those would take first place in a Lawn Boy convention!!

Thanks for the post & thread guys. I've saved some of the info under "next mower", about the F series with the air screw adjustment, & the Toro 21 possibly being a little stronger than the F. I have a LB 10227 I bought for mowing a steep bank (~28*) that I've attached to my 721D to make life easier (disabled) once a week.
One time the grass got more than a foot high on that bank cause the coil quit from moisture, & I learned (on this forum I think) to bake the coil. Had to do that a couple more times till finally bought a new coil. Anyway, the LB mowed it, not like butter, but far better than pushing it along the bank for about 200' x 4 passes.
Mine probably needs a better tune, but the more power of the F, & Toro 21 interests me "if & when" I decide I need Mo-power.
Is someone saying that you can still buy a two-stroke Lawn Boy walk-behind mower? I've been told (and did a minor amount of research to back it up) that the 2-strokes were history and the 4-strokes that "replaced" them (same color but nothing else as good) weren't worth having. I loved my two-strokes -- all three of them over a 10 year span -- because they would mow upside down if you could figure a way to get fuel into the carb. The engines wore out quickly in my use but the mowers were still worth the money and then some.
If I can get new ones, I want them!

I didn't think you could get any NEW 2-stroke Lawnboys. All the ones Lawnboy still makes (these: http://lawnboy.com/wpmModels/models.html) I believe are 4-cycle. I could be wrong. But a lot of people buy older Lawnboys on ebay or Craigslist, so people can still get 2-stroke ones even if they are not manufactured still.
I was just combing ebay ,and could not tell if there was a real "F" series ,or if it was something else.I am checking ad now! Thanks.
OK ,I found it. Nice . Would need to sand down the handle and paint green over anti rust primer? I'll consider it for sure. I also know a friend in NY who is looking for a Vintage Lawn boy right now ,I sent him the link as well.

The solution with the reason
Great
I too am a two stroke fan, being lighter, there is no reason for self-propelled, at least on level grounds.
Also, they are less noisy.
Now, I too own a 10685, an excellent unit, but it could be better.
A smooth plastic deck(Honda) to allow for better mulching...Around here, the grass is always wet, this leads to accumulated mud and grass under the deck - quite the problem..
I really do have a lousy lawn, I must admit...
I don't quite follow your comment about a plastic deck allowing better mulching. I understand that a non-rusting material is highly desirable but Lawn-Boy's mg/al deck takes care of that. Is plastic better for some reason?
Also, exactly what material is the Honda deck made of? I have heard that they do break sometimes but so does a mg/al deck if you hit it hard enough.
this might be what he is referring to....... NeXite Mowing Deck
Now I must think a little....lol....lol...I don't quite follow your comment about a plastic deck allowing better mulching. I understand that a non-rusting material is highly desirable but Lawn-Boy's mg/al deck takes care of that. Is plastic better for some reason?

The problem that I have is that my grass is always wet...it seems to rain every day around here and the drying time is l o n g , ever so l o n g .....So, the mud , grass, and moisture stick and clog up the works..
The mowing with the 10685 takes many hours, of which, many are spend cleaning the machine, over and over...I must try some more of that no-stick spray...
A smooth plastic surface would be better, similar to the Honda machine...Or a teflon surface.....nothing sticks, at least for the first week !!!
Everything breaks, or rusts....magnesium is particularly bad...Hard to say what is best....
The LB 10685 is far too "unstreamlined" at its undersides, far too complex with housings, bumps, seams, screws...
We need a total reingineering here..
A 100% dedicated mulcher would be much the better...
i have a F series lawn boy myself and i would let someone have it for what i have in it if they want i hate that thing i would rather use my John Deere 14 SB over it anyway as a matter of fact i would rather use my murray as that lawn boy but thats just my opinion
But, I know of NOTHING that does not need regular maintenance...A Lawn Boy isn't the mower for someone that wants to do nothing more than pull a rope, and cut grass.

Beautiful
Are these stock or "street-rodded" mowers ?
A man has to love the nicely done street rods..
These Mowers send shivers up my leg!! They make me drool! Look at the size of the fuel tanks !! Look at the huge flange on the grass chute ,and the size of the grass catchers! Absolutely amazing . I would trade my wife for those mowers ! JK !!
