folks,
i just joined the site, and am doing some exploration. This is my first high end mower, I have 2 acres that I cut. I am at the magical 50 hours mark, and believe I have done my last cut of the season. I would like to change oil and filter, drain and fill the hydros with new filters and put some new blades on it to get it ready for 2016. I am fairly handy, but would appreciate words of wisdom, what oil is best for the engine and hydros? any recommendations on the oil filters for the Kawasaki, and filters for the hydros. Let me know.

FWIW I use Stens filters and have been doing so for a long time with absolutely no problems.
Stens claim theare OEM and visually they look identical.
IF you have or bought additional warrantee then pay the extra for genuine Kawakasi filters & oil till warrantee expires and keep our receipts.
It makes it hard for them to weasel out if you have been doing the right thing by them and when it is all said and done what is $ 20 extra for consummables on an expensive mower once a season.

As for the hydros check carefully the service schedule they generally go a very long time before service is needed and you can be doing more harm than good .
Again for Hydros, go with the makers branded filters as hydros are very sensative to things like oil filter back pressure and some seem to rely on the bypass valves to give extra over pressure protection.

Down here OPTI ( Stens brand ) oil are doing a "Double your engine warranee" promotion so that might be worth looking at if it is running in the USA .

Congrats on your MX-5060. I have the identical unit and changed my hydro fluid and filters after the first season (about 35 hours). The only difficulty was removing one of the filters. I ended up having to pierce it with a screwdriver to get it off, a minor setback. It probably was not necessary to change them out, but I rather be safe than sorry.

I ran across this repair manual for the mX 5060. You may find it extremely interesting / helpful if you ever need it.
