My craftsman mower wont turn over freely

Based on what we we told it did not sound new. The original owner said that the battery was shot.
Usually new batterys are defective not shot. I think the rest of us took it as it was used. Anyway, your right had it been new its should not have been messed with.

At this point, the motor needs to have it's compression tested.
