I purchased my new 2017 Scag Tiger Cat on 10/25/17. It had 9.5 hours on it when it was delivered to me.
When I used it for the first time a few days later, the motor/rpm was going up and down, up and down, up and down in the 'idle' position.
In the 'mowing position' it maintained 'steadiness' and did fine. I only used 'most' of 'one' tank to mow that day...I can't remember which tank.
Yesterday (5/26/18) I started out with the right tank (both tanks were completely full of supreme unleaded fuel) and immediately it started in with that up and down, up and down RPM behavior. Also, this time it stalled while mowing (2 times), and while in idle it stalled 2-3 times.
I was determined to complete my entire mowing responsibilities and tolerate the misbehaviors of my Scag.
Just as I almost ran out of fuel on the Right Tank, I switched to the left tank...No up and down behaviors were experienced whatsoever.
