I have a murray lawn mower with a bent shaft I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix it or had the part number that I could go buy a new one. The model number is 20905x8C

I have posted this before...
You 'should' replace the crank shaft... But, on a small engine you can get by doing something like this...
Post back with your results ... :smile:KennyV

So would it be possible to use a sledge hammer to fix it or would that cause problems latter on?

Possibly ... the only sure thing is ... there will always be problems later on....
The truth is, I Might use this technique, it would depend on how bent the shaft was... and how much you were willing to spend to make it right. :smile:KennyV

I straightened one years ago for my brother with a sledge. It wasn't perfect but at least it stopped the vibration that was so bad one didn't have to chase and catch the handle any more.

Determine the amount bent and go from there. A quarter inch run out, in my estimation, is too much and a eighth of an inch possibly repairable. That's just a by guess and by golly judgement call that doesn't have any concrete facts to guide us. If you don't have a indicator to determine amount of run out you can get real close with a feeler gauge.

I dont want to spend much more $$$ on this project. Although I didnt pay much for this mower the worst that can happen is I use it for parts. I will probably try a sledge hammer because if I really mess something up as I said im into it not that much $$$.
