Just purchased Murray 42571x8a. Installed new battery worked fine until I turned it off. Tightened connections and started fine. Turned off again and can't get it started. There is no sound when I turn key. The battery is fine power seams to be getting to starter per meter test. I have checked and replaced the fuse. I have also cleaned the seat switch. I tried checking for power with meter but there was none. I don't know if it should register power or not. I've only cut 10% of the yard and the wife is not happy. Please advise.

I dont think there is meant to be power at the seat switch as it will be an earth for switching engine off when not on the seat.
If power is getting to the starter like you say, it is probably the starter or maybe a dodgy earth.

I said starter but I meant solenoid. I did replace the solenoid anyway since it looked to be a potential issue. After doing so, I'm still having the same issue. Should I replace the starter/or ignition switch? Thank you.

Have you got 12 volts at the starter motor when you have the key turned to the starting position.
Remove the wire from the starter when checking for power.
If you have 12 volts it could be the starter.
What about the earth?

I will check your recommendation....FYI, I did start it yesterday from the solenoid with a screwdriver. Maybe that means the starter is ok? I think I may sound more knowledgeable than I actually am. I don't know what the "earth" is. Please advise.

If you got it to start by the screwdriver I would say that the starter is fine.
Solenoid should have 2 large terminals. 1 with the battery wire and the other with wire going to the starter.
Then there should be a 3rd smaller terminal either a spade connection or ring connection.
With the ign key at starting, you should have 12 volts. If not you have to figure where it is either safety switch not allowing circuit to be complete.
If there is 12 volts, it could be the solenoid.
Try that.

Finally got back to mower. I replaced the seat switch and it starts up fine. The problem now is when I disengage the parking bread, it cuts off....I can't get it to stay on.

I noticed there is a switch that engages with the parking break. When the parking break is disengaged, this switch is also. Maybe this is the problem?
