hello everyone, I'm still having a problem trying to find out where the governor control spring attaches to. Another user on this site has tried to point me in the right direction by explaining it to me, but I'm still not getting it. Would there be anyone who can possibly use a pointer and highlight the specific areas of my picture to show me ? In the past I've always managed to get around mowers with certain problems, and get up and running, but when it comes to linkages and springs, etc I'm lost without pictures. I've contacted MTD on this issue, but their system only goes back as far as 2012, mine is a 2004. Looking at the diagram only helps me to an extent because everything is so small and is not specific as where small springs attach to, sorry for my inexperience. There are very few places as far as repair shops go, and cost between $70 and $80 an hour, and are not very honest, so I do my best to try and fix these issues myself. Thank you very much, i look forward to hearing from you guys. If there are any other pictures you need please let me know.

First off, that U shaped linkage (choke control) in photo #3 is in the wrong place. Remove it from the slot and squeeze it together. It should go through the slot from left to right. It just rests in that slot. When you push the throttle control to the choke position, you should see an arm pushing on this linkage, closing the choke. You may have to remove the control assembly to get it into the slot. Second, please post the engine numbers so we know exactly which engine you have. I’m think that the spring you show will hook between the throttle control and governor. Will need to be installed with the control assembly is off. I can’t say for sure until I know the engine.

Hi, I will take a picture of the engine numbers for you and post it tomorrow. I'll also try what you advised me to do.
Thank you for your reply

I didn't get a chance to try the other things you mentioned, but I will tomorrow. Thank you for your help.

Hi Rivets, I'm looking at the diagram and trying, but I'm not going to know from that because it's very small , it's not clear to me without a good picture. I know doing this is not the most complicated thing in the world, but I'm just not getting it. Thank you for trying to help me out.

Hi Rivets, I wanted to let you know that I finally figured out where the governor control spring goes, and I feel like kicking myself, because it's so easy, when you know the locations of parts, otherwise it can be a real pain. I posted a couple of pictures to show you. But after I installed the governor control spring, I noticed that it's missing another spring that makes the choke work correctly by making the choke go back in place, but on all of the diagrams I've looked at, none of them are showing the spring at all. In the third picture, it goes in between the white plastic piece and connects to the left side of the plate. Not sure why the diagrams don't show it.
Thank you for all of your help.
