I have a MTD 48" rider mower that slips and then stops going. Could it be a belt causing the problem? I just replaced the blade belt, and put everything back the way i took them of. the variable speed belt is pretty cracked. could that be the cause of the problem? Please help if you know.

Sounds like the drive belt is slipping. Have you got it installed right?

Thank you for the reply, i am going to put on a new drive belt today. I did notice the idler pulley was bouncing on the old belt when i raised the rpm's. could the spring on the idler pulley be shot ?. and how can i check to see if it is bad.
