All sudden engine spins with new battery from lowes than it wont spin at all. I have contunity at the blade and clutch switch both open and close. Tried 3 new key switches(MTD 925-0267). With one lead on the pos battery and the other on "S" terminal I no voltage with or without turning the key. I have 12v at the "G" terminal on switch all the time. I did notice that the ground from the neg terminal on battery is using one of solonoids mounting bolts. I can jump starter from solonoid and at the starter. I'm getting 12v at one of the seat switches terminals.
Even though I can jump the starter at the solonoid?

To test it take a wire hook one end to the battery on the + side and touch the other end to the small post on the solenoid if it works then you are not getting power to it

Then it is good. So next check if a fuse is bad or maybe a broke wire or bad safety switch. When it starts does every thing else work. Can you drive and engage the blades. First two I look at is seat and brake Switch

I got to spin to on its own when jumpered both the clutch pedal and blade switch with a wire. Both switched have the 2 orange ignition wires. Then when I tried I got nothing. Fuse is good. I have 12v at the seat switch. Havent tried the drive or blades yet. I currently have the hydro bypassed for roll mode.

Ok how about hook every switch back up like it should be and unplug one at a time and or jump it and sit in the seat

Ok, I found the problem. The engine will turn everytime when I have blade safety switch jumpered. Getting a new safety switch for the blades.

Good job it's always best to test one at a time

I take that back. Its not the problem. I think theres a short in solonoid or battery cables. I jump the terminal on the solonoid but not hot post to the stud on the starter. All it does is spark. New battery with 12v but acts if its almost dead though.

Replaced red battery cable going to the solonoid. I guess the retainer brushes in the starter need replaced.

I have 12.38v at the spade terminal on the solonoid. When jumping the soloniod with a screwdriver the engine turns over like the battery is half dead. This a brand new battery bought in beginning April 2012. I have 12.93v on the battery.

Replaced the black battery cable and starter and still nothing. I removed the spark plugs and it will spin really fast when jumping the 2 posts on the solonoid but still nothing when using key switch. Bad starter? Bad wiring harness?
Took your advice and got a different battery with 340 CCA, 425 CA. The engine spins just fine when jumping the two large posts on the solonoid with the spark plugs back in the engine but still nothing when trying the key switch. Bad wiring harness?

Also if jump the battery directly with jumper cables it acts like the battery is half dead when its not. The battery works just fine on the hechinger both have the same 18hp Lhead twin briggs.
