I have always thought about the tensioner on my chainsaw,and what a silly place for Stihl to put that screw.Hence I didn't use it too much because of the placement.Well I recently bought a set of dawgs and a side tension upgrade.Whar a difference!!!

The chain tensioner screw on the engine side of the bar in front use to be the standard location for all saw brands.

There three types of tensioners used on Stihl saws. Front tensioner screw, a quick tensioner setup, and side mounted tensioner setup. So which side mount are you referring to the quick or the side mounted tensioner? The MS170 came with a front tensioner and the quick tensioner depending on the version.

If it is quick tensioner setup you will likely have a problem get the bar off later as it gets hung on the collar screw. I have had to remove the collar screw just to get the bar off.

If you don't mind PM me with some info on these kits as be some my customers might if they are willing to part with some cash. Most are too cheap though.

I actually bought that set up 1st, by mistake.It's for the 180 and others.But for the 170,it didn't have the tensioning screw.

Some kit have the chain adjuster and some don't.
