Mower stalls

People,

MTD rider, 1998 (its old), 13HP tecumseh engine, I believe. Mower starts up after many cranks, then, I depress choke knob slowly as it warms up a tad, then, I rev up to max and engine stalls unless I cut back on speed/throttle lever. I still wait more to warm up even hotter, then engage blades and engine dies.

Started again, I rev up to max, and engage blades, and sputters, etc. Bad. Carb cleanout?? gas is not old.

Absolutely, post all numbers from engine, you need to purchase a carburetor rebuild kit. Yes replace fuel filter & check air filter for replacement. Adjusting valves with engine cold per engine specs. will benefit also. Post MTD model & serial numbers as well as all numbers from Tecumseh engine. Also check spark plug & engine oil, if dipstick smells of gasoline, gas in crankcase oil, you have a carburetor problem you need to address then change engine oil.

Thanks, mark! Also, just thought- could it be starving for fuel as I increase the throtttle? I never did change thew fuel filter.......

OK, got the engine #- it is Engine Model OHV 130 206820B. Family TTP358 UIG2RA. Tecumseh.

If that is the one with the plastic clip on float bowl, you just replace the bowl as all te jets are in there and it is not really servicable.
The engine manual is readily available for free on line google the engine numbers you posted and "service manual" .
The fuel filter will need replacing , this should be done every second seaon without thought along with the air filter.

Don't be intimidated by the age of your mower.
It will outlast anything built in the last 20 years.
I have customers qued up for old reliable robust mowers

Wow, I didnt know- thanks bert. Yup, just remembered the air filter has NEVER ben replaced. Could be choking for air. Gonna do all 3 things asap.
