Mower Keeps Dying

With a cap used, the one on the right is fine. I really dislike the new gas can spouts, especially the one on the left. The middle isn't as bad.
 
I hate the new fuel can I brought wants to look like it about to explode and then when I relieved the pressure overnight try to collapse upon itself. Never had this problem with my old can before it finally develop a large hole due degrading of the plastic. Thinking about drilling a small pin hole in the nozzle shutoff valve since I cap the nozzle anyway to keep rain out of it.

I would leave it alone. The more O2 and trash you let inside the quicker the fuel degrades. Fuel will oxidize off and not stay as fresh.

No, the right one doesn't have the spring loaded parts WITH O-rings to semi-seal the can. A cap can let the can breathe which will allow oxygen in degrading the fuel faster.

Middle spout has everything you want or need. Cap and O-rings to semi-seal the can.

Got a Hustler Fas Trak SD model 928267 that is kicking my butt. Got it out this spring and it wouldn't start. Found out the battery was bad so I replaced it. Topped it off with fresh gas and it started right up no problems. Pulled it outside, engaged the deck and it died. After that it would start but spit and sputtered like it was starved of gas. After a couple of hours it started and ran fine. Pulled the deck button and same thing happened. Noticed that there was very little fuel in the filter so I thought maybe the fuel pump was going bad. Put a new one on and the same process happened again. Had a guy suggest to replace the fuel lines on one side to see if one was collapsed. Replaced it on one side, mower fired up, went outside, engaged the deck and it kept running. Figured perfect, that was the issue all along. Started mowing but every time i hit a bump it would start spitting and sputtering but never died. Made it through the whole yard and got it put away. So then i started to think maybe a safety switch but I didn't think that fit the problems before. Yesterday, it started fine, pulled it outside and when I leaned back in the seat it made it spit and sputter and then it died. I was able to get it to fire again but it would run rough and die. Made me think it might be the seat sensor. Let it sit for about an hour and then it fired right back up. Engaged the deck which made it run rough again. Was able to get it back into the garage before it died. Just baffled at this point. Any help would be appreciatted

How many hours on the engine?....Coil on one side. Guess.
 
Update. Finally getting a chance to work on It. 213 hours. There is a coil on one side. Drained the tank there was nothing in. Also, there is a screen on the drop tube in the gas tank so there is no chance it’s picking anything up. I also inspected the tube for cracks which there was none and the rubber piece that goes into the tank and that was in good shape as well. The other interesting thing is when I took the carburetor off and there was no gas in it. Also, I’ve never seen this on the bottom of a carburetor either. Figured out the piece on the bottom is a fuel shut off. Checked that and it is working properly as well.
 
if there was no fuel in the carb, then why is what you have to ask. Maybe someone added a shut off you haven't found. Your initial post almost sounds like it ran off the fuel in the bowl then died because the bowl went dry. I'd be looking for a fuel shut off. If there was none, I'd be figuring out where the fuel was being blocked. If the fuel pump gets fuel and none leaves it, I'd be checking to be sure I hooked the hoses up correctly.
