Mower deck spindle pulley removal.

I have a Bad Boy ZT 60 inch desk and I need to replace the spindles. The pullies are stuck and one of them was not torqued at the factory and was half off the shaft but all 3 are stuck. I have applies plaster to them and they are soaking. How do you get the pullies off?

Suposedly there are couple set screw on each pulley. If already removed then you use a puller. May also need some heat used.

There are likely more than one set screw, as prior comment noted. I had issues trying to get a drive pump pulley off for that same reason - I only loosened one of the two set screws. Check for others.

Check for set screws along the outside of the key way slot.

Can you just replace the bearings? I was able to just replace the bearings and installed zerks as well. Saved me hundreds of dollars.

Since they didn't I will.....just what I'd do not gospel.

Automatic Transmission Fluid and Acetone....yeah, they don't mix but the acetone helps pull the ATF down the shaft.

Heat is your friend. Propane torches are all but useless, MAPP gas less so, but oxy/acetylene is the ticket. Heat the exterior of the pulley hub til just barely red and let it cool. This breaks the rust bond. Do not use the ATF/acetone while the unit is heated...acetone flash point is quite low.

Those two holes in the pulley can be used to pull it off with all thread rod, a couple of nuts and a puller bar. I welded up my own years ago...just two parallel steel 1/4" strips with a nut welded in the center for a bolt and two blocks on either end of the strips welded to hold the ends together providing slots for the all thread to pass through either side of the center nut. You can buy one, too, from Amazon.

Do NOT use jaw pullers as they will destroy the pulley. Use the bar puller and apply some moderate tension, heat the hub and it should start to come off the shaft.

PB Blaster or tranny fluid with Acetone mix work very well. You can use a fine thread bolt that will fit the shaft and screw in quite a few threads, then use an air hammer with a blunt bit to hammer on the bolt head while prying up carefully on the pulley with a board and prybar.
