Well my son ran his 03 ZTR out of oil. Has the 11 horse Briggs motor. (model:28U707, type:1125E1) blowing white smoke. So, is it worth buying new motor, where, tough to do yourself? Just bought this mower a while back and is in great shape.. Thanks for any comments!!

Likely as it is there will be major component damage maybe down as
far as scrubbing out some engine block surfaces relied on.
Yer having a rough trot, soldier... a new engine is going to hurt but
you will know what you are mowing with.
I would advise getting a shop to fit it also as there are issues with
governers, clutch and carby speed settings which may prove too much
of a learning curve at this time.
Investigate with the shop if it is possible to fit a heat sensing "klixon" to
the crankcase as a safety feature for engine temp. MIGHT avoid
similar ever happening again.

What you may not have wanted to read however I trust it helps some.
