My new Honda mower leaves a strip of uncut grass. I mow one direction and then come back the other direction. The wheel pushes the grass down and when I come back over it the grass is still down and doesn't get cut. It raises a few minutes later and I have mohawks of grass all over my lawn. Shouldn't the mower have a strong enough vaccum to pick the grass up?

The mower has the 160cc engine and it was the $399 self propeled price point model. It also has the dual mulching blades.

The mower leaves strips of grass across my lawn. I have very thick grass but even if I mow it after 3-4 days it leaves strips of uncut grass.

Any tips/ reccomendations? I think I am going to return the mower but I want to make sure I don't have the same issue with my next purchase.

It's possible you could benefit from a special blow-out kit Honda offers to help; it depends on the exact mower, your lawn conditions, etc. Can you provide the serial number off the back of the mower deck? It's in the form of MXXX-1234567, and I can see what is available via Honda Customer Relations.

Robert,

Thanks for the reply. I will get the number for you. One question I have is would I be better off upgrading to a 190cc motor? I was thinking the larger motor may provide a stronger vaccum. I have very healthy thick grass and it is clumping a bit when mowing it every third day! It also bogs down in the thicker areas. Would the 190cc help with this issue?

The 190cc engine on the HRX series models is a great combination. I think it does, in some cases, provide a better overall finish on certain lawns. The 160cc engine on the HRR series is "enough" motor (torque and horsepower) to do a fine job, but every lawn is different.

I've owned a lot of Hondas over the years but when Honda switched to the GVC engine they blew it big time. It doesn't do half the job the old Hondas used to do.
