Look carefully for the engine numbers which will be stamped into the shroud above the spark plug. You should find three sets of numbers. Post these numbers and we should be able to narrow down the year of the unit.

nothing readable there.
it does have a unique feature.
the motor is mounted on a plate that is attached with bolts through springs. when this leaver is pushed down the front of the motor plate raises 3/8",
it doesn't change the tension on the belt.
can the style of font tell us anything?

In my post I said..."nothing readable there." I will look again later to make sure I didn't overlook something. do you have a pic of exactly where to look?
then posted pics of some unique features I thought might date the mower.
also I noticed the crank and spindle pullies are the same diameter. that would make the motor RPM and blade 1:1....thought that odd also.

You’ll have to look harder, it’s there. The housing which has the starter rope is called the shroud which wraps around the engine to help cooling. The area of the shroud above the spark plug is where Briggs would stamp in the model, type and code numbers, and it would take a lot of wear on those older units to wear them off. Some of the older ones had it on the shroud side, opposite the carb. Get one of the better half’s old scrubbies from the kitchen sink and some Windex. Dampen the scrubby with the Windex and start cleaning this area. If the scrubby get full of crap, rinse it clean and start again.
