I have a Model R7070 which I purchased in the Spring of '80 and it has served my well for all these years (until a couple of years ago). I have been told that the compression is only #25. Can anyone point me in the right direction to either get it rebuilt or a replacement engine. It is a good old mower and I hate to just scrap it.

Indiana is happy hunting grounds for old Lawn-Boys at bargain prices.

If I were you I'd look for an old mower to use as a parts donor -- or maybe make your mower the donor. CraigsList is a good place to start.

In any case, that approach will be much more economical than buying a new engine (which I don't think is readily available) or rebuilding the one you have.

Another thought -- the engine could only need piston, rings and crankshaft seals. That wouldn't be terribly expensive. Parts less than $50. If you know that it's never been run without oil mixed with the gas and never run without an air filter, then you could be in good shape. It might be worth checking out.

You have an F-series engine, BTW.

All you need is a set rings and two oil seals to make the engine good. Very easy job to do.
