The name on the side of the mower means little now days as there are really only 2 factories that make 80% of the brands.

JD make their own + at least one other brand ( used to make Honda as well )
Toro make their own , don't know if the make for any one else .
Everything else comes out of MTD or AYP ( Husqvarna)
Thus everything else is just a slight variation of either the basic MTD or AYP design .

For current MTD Products model numbers they code out as below
Everything with the same characters from M to F below are identical apart from the shape of the hood & the colour , which is the 0 in this example.
For running parts you can mostly ignore the engine code ( M ) as well

Bert the last track I had the Toro and Ariens consumer products were being made by MTD, Which accounts for the Chinese engines on the Toro mowers, they are the MTD Powermore engines, aka Loncin.

Hard to keep up
Even harder as down here models are generally a season or two behind up there, unless the model was a disaster in which case they dump them all down here at big discounts .
Briggs did themselves a bid disservice by closing down the Murray factories and forcing a duopoly onto the smaller brands .
