Mid Season Mower Maintenance

I'm 2/3rds of the way through the mowing season ---well into our seasonal drought which stunts the lawn growth, but not the weed growth.

I did a mid season maintenance check this evening.

I scraped off the accumulated grass collected under the mower.

The oil level was a little low, so I emptied out the existing oil and replaced it.

I took the blade off and sharpened it.

Everything else I'm concerned with on this 30 year old B&S walk behind mower seemed fine.

I have a new blade that's been sitting around for 2-3 years. I suppose I will consider putting that on next year.

How about the air filter? Take off the fan housing and clean cylinder and head fins?

I've never had that accumulate debris, so I don't usually check on it.

But it's worth doing. And I'll check and blow out the air filter cartridge if it needs it.

Don't blow out your air filter, it ruins them, just replace it!

You must not mow much or have high grass with heavy spring rains.

I use an old paint brush to dust filters and mowers off. Also the backpack blower for the deck and engine. Also try to get if made a foam pre air filter. Those are a blessing in keeping the main paper filter clean/er.
