I have an older non-running (~2003) Craftsman riding mower with a 15.5 or 16.5hp? Briggs.

What do I need to wire this thing so it will run and re-charge the battery?
All I want is the basic wiring:

wire from pos battery to relay switch then from relay to a starter button
neg from battery direct to engine (where is best place?)
How do I wire the on/off switch to maintain continuity & the engine running once I press a momentary starter button
Anything else?

You'll first have to determine if it has the charging coils needed to charge. Some older motors in this size didn't have them. Get the numbers off the engine case. That should tell the story.

It has the charge/amp meter on the dash and appears to have always charged in the past - I say this because I've had a dead battery before, jumped it and it's subsequently started on it's own power for weeks afterward.
