Are you working on a starter like this ?john deer starter.jpg
The way you take it off goes back the same way.
What problem are you having ?

there is a little plastic tab on the solenoid with a groove in it, if you look at where the solenoid goes into the starter housing, you'll see a plastic piece with a slot cut in it, the plastic piece on the solenoid hooks into the plastic piece in the starter body.
i find it's sometimes easier to replace the starter as a whole.

Did not remove starter mind looks just like that. Should I take the starter off then put it in?
