Hey guys, Im looking at a John Deere LX188 to put some work into and have for a second mower. The one Im looking at needs a hood / seat and some mechanical work with the fuel system. What do these go for in this condition and what do they go for with no issues ? Are there any things I need to look out for with this model ?

Thanks.

Built from 1992-1998.
Has Kawasaki FD series engine.
By the time you buy a hood, seat, and fix issues, you will have spent more than the mower is worth all in 100% right.

Do you know the value of what this model goes for both in need of repair and nothing needed ?

How many hours? Is it running so you can operate it?

If it has been siting unused for years neglected, it is likely not worth investing in. It does not mean a thing if someone tells you: "It ran when it was parked".

Used mower sale values are a matter of how much a person is willing to spend and how bad they want it, because there are no printed value guides like NADA or Kelly Blue Book. Used equipment sites are by far overpriced because of all of the sales commissions added.

Even without a hood I would still revive this old of a mower if it runs and drives. The hood does not make the machine) They are better built than any of the newer ones by comparison.

You can plan on needing belts, pullies and blade spindles in the future if they have not been maintained.

Parts through Ebay are not terribly expensive and it is a matter of how much work you want to put into it.

The only thing that would make me walk away is if the engine is smoking, having serious power problems or knocking. Kawasaki engines back then were the top of the line. But like anything, if maintenance has been neglected, it is junk.
