LT160 solenoid replacement

Chunky Stew

I bought house last spring and a early 2000s JD LT 160 came with it. Starting it always was kind of iffy, so after spring maintenance, plug, air and fuel filters and an oil change I could not get it to start. I charged the battery and it’s is good.

I am in the process of putting a new solenoid on it and the diagrams from the JD replacement are contradicting. Post E for battery cable and post G for the starter cable.

There are 2 views in the instructions that confuse me. Maybe I am going nutty or got dumber again.

Anyone out there agree the diagrams are contradicting and have any 1st hand knowledge? Thanks

Facing the solenoid the post on the left goes to battery & the one on the right goes to the starter.

It makes absolutely no difference.
The solenoid is nothing but a big switch that joins the two terminals together.
All that is important is the power feed to the mower is on the terminal with the power from the battery

bertsmobile 1, You have helped me in the past. I have a grasshopper 725D that has air in the injector pump & I cannot get it all out. I changed the fuel filters and the flexible fuel lines and bled the system several times, it runs a while then dies. The engine is a 25HP Kubota. First started having trouble while mowing. It would die. start up again , run a while then die. Finally it quit running and would not start. I put a new main fuel assembly, changed the small filter and no help. I bled the system, sometimes it starts but mostly it just tries to start with black smoke coming out of muffler. I changed all fuel lines and bled system again. No change. One thing I didn't do is pull the line out of the fuel tank to see if all that was clean. I'm thing there is still air in the injector pump. Can you help me on this. Thank you very much.
